Life Freedom Project

Solving treatment of wastewater sewage sludge with new HTL technology to produce hydrocarbons,
asphalts and fertilizers.

The project proposes an ecological alternative to the disposal and management of sewage sludge produced by wastewater treatment, through the creation of an innovative plant that contributes to the development of the state of the art in the economically sustainable recovery of sewage sludge waste.

0 million tons dry solids reached in Europe in 2005
0% of these are recovered directly in agriculture
0 million tons dry solids expected to exceed by 2020

Life Freedom Objectives

The general objective of the project is to apply at demonstration level hydrothermal liquefaction as innovative and reliable technology for the treatment of sewage sludge.

Actions and Means Involved

The project is based on the results of the experimentation, carried out by a pilot plant and related to the transformation of the sewage sludge into hydrocarbons.

Expected Results and Impacts

Realize a plant for the transformation of sludge by HTL reaction, in real scale and connected to a municipal sewage treatment plant of medium size.
